Isle of Wight County Offers Top Ranked Schools in Hampton Roads
There’s plenty of GOOD NEWS to share about the public schools that Founders Pointe children attend (Isle of Wight County). We’ve compiled some recent statistics and rankings about the county school system and we recently interviewed the School Superintendent.

Isle of Wight County Schools are ranked first in South Hampton Roads by schooldigger.com and third among school districts in the Tidewater area.

The County schools are currently ranked 16th in the state’s 118 school divisions as reported in schooldigger.com’s recent article ranking the various Virginia school districts.

- Carrollton Elementary School teacher, Haley Hanson, has been named Isle of Wight County’s 2014 Division Teacher of the Year. April 2014
- Isle of Wight County Schools Superintendent, Katrise Perera, receives her Doctor of Educationdegree with a concentration in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. May 2014
- Smithfield High School junior Kirana Perera wins the National Beta Club Harris Leadership award. Perera is the only high school student in the state of Virginia to receive this prestigious honor. March 2014
- Smithfield High School Athletics hosts a College Signing day for three star athletes. Seniors Michael Morehead, Alexandria Nowak and Jordon Garlow each sign letters of intent to continue playing their respective sports at the collegiate level. Carter Page is also wrestling at Virginia Tech. November 2013
- The Isle of Wight school system will be spending nearly half a million dollars for three years on iPads to replace old textbooks. October 2012
- Preliminary reports show Isle of Wight County Schools maintain their history of a high level of SOL pass rates for 2011-2012 academic year . Scores included 94.6 percent for Science, 91 percent for English, and 87.5 percent for History — all above state averages. August 2012
- Laura Abel, former principal of Grafton Middle School, has been named the new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Administration for Isle of Wight County Schools. May 2012
- Carrollton Elementary is awarded the 2012 Excellence Award by the Virginia Board of Education! The school has exceeded all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years. February 2012
- Dyrell Roberts, Smithfield High School (’08 graduate) became Virginia Tech’s all-time kick returner and was a 4 year star at wide receiver with 1,363 career yards. Roberts graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012.
