History Lives
History abounds in Isle of Wight County and Smithfield, with many stories to discover. These photos were taken on the waterways and historical sites that helped to form the region and its future. St. Luke’s Church (America’s oldest church of English foundation, circa 1632), and the Pagan River, Main Street in Downtown Smithfield are some of the images shown.
Founders Pointe is located in the Carrollton area of Isle of Wight County, just 10 minutes to the historic town of Smithfield, a Colonial seaport town established in 1750. Antique shops, fine restaurants, historic homes, and specialty shops decorate the downtown area, recognized by the Virginia Landmark Register as being “perhaps the best preserved Virginia’s Colonial seaports”.
